Hello,
Just flying into your inbox today to offer a quick reminder to look up at the sky.
The last Super Moon of the year will fall on this Friday (15th) and it’s set to be a really spectacular one. The skies have been really cold and clear where I live these the past few days, offering the perfect viewing conditions. So I hope it shines bright and clear for you all too.
And if the world is feeling particularly heavy to you right now, I hope a little moon gazing will help you to feel still and calm, just for a moment.
In fact if our world leaders all spent a bit more time moon gazing I think the world might feel a little more peaceful don’t you?
Anyway, I wish you all a very Happy Full Moon. I’ll be looking up at it over the next few nights and sending you a wave, wherever you are.
I’ll end with some of the beautiful names for this Full Moon:
According to the Almanac and the Farmers Almanac some of the traditional Native American names for the November Full Moon are:
Beaver Moon (origin unknown)
Frost Moon (Cree and Assiniboine)
Freezing Moon (Anishinaabe)
Deer Rutting Moon (Dakota and Lakota)
Moon of Much White Frost On Grass (Algonquin)
Moon When The Rivers Begin To Freeze (Abenaki, Arapaho, and Cree)
Meanwhile, the Celtic or Old English names for the November Moon reflect the sombre mood that has always been associated with this month:
Mourning Moon
Darkest Depths Moon
But if you’re feeling the heaviness of this month, don’t forget it’s always darkest before the dawn.
Enjoy the moon and I’ll see you again on the 1st December with our last Monthly Notebook of the year.
I’ll have a little update to share with you too.
Until then - take care,
Vicky
I’ll be out looking! Thanks for the reminder!🌕
Love this. We were blessed to move to a home this summer with an incredible view of the night sky. The moon rises between two trees over the neighbors and it’s just magical. We have spent so much more time “looking up” since we moved -especially when the Aurora was visible on the East Coast- and now we will have to brave the cold to do so again on Friday!
