Hello,
I hope you’re all having a good week and looking forward to the quiet energy of the New Moon this Friday.
I just wanted to send a quick note to my paid subscriber community to give you an update and explain why I’ve been a bit quiet the last couple of weeks.
As you may have seen, here in the UK there’s been a discussion on Substack recently about some of the implications of offering paid subscriptions to EU countries from the UK from a VAT point of view. Yes it’s as dull as it sounds. But it’s also a potentially quite complex ‘grey area’. And I don’t like grey areas. It’s been draining my creative energy and causing me weird anxiety.
The good news for you is that while I look into this issue and plan how to proceed, I’ve paused your paid subscription. This means that no money will be taken from your account during this time and annual subscribers will have the extra time added for free to the end of their subscription plan if I unpause it a later date.
It’s very frustrating to have to do this so soon after launching my paid community. I love sending you newsletters, so don’t worry, I will find a way to keep doing this regardless of what happens with this particular issue. (Your Winter Solstice online retreat is already prepped and waiting!)
But in the spirit of slow and seasonal living I don’t wan’t to rush this decision.
With the quiet, introspective energy of the New Moon right now, this feels like the right time to take a moment to sit and think about how best to proceed. We’re also entering the dark, quiet month of November; the perfect time for deep thoughts and slow, careful decisions.
So leave it with me. And enjoy a little break in your billing cycle as thank you for your patience.
In the meantime, happy Halloween / Samhain / All Souls Day for later this week. If, like me, you prefer the peaceful energy of the old ways and want to swerve some of the more commercial elements of modern Halloween, you might enjoy this post:
I’ll be in touch again soon.
Take care,

What a nightmare! Such a pain for creatives trying to make a living! Xx
Oh that's something I need to look into too. By the time substack and stripe have taken a cut there will not be much left with this on top. Do you know the percentage?
