Aaaah I just made cinnamon-spiced and coconut flour apple cake with the sour apples of our orchard and now I am thinking and smiling about all the apples that we left around for the fairies! 🙏🏼✨
There’s an episode all about the history and significance of apples throughout history! It’s so interesting and highly recommend. “The Apple Episode” on Gastropod
Yum, yum, YUM. We planted an apple tree in our front yard shortly after buying our house 10 years ago, and it is such a joy to go apple picking and eat pies made right from our own garden :) And I still love visiting orchards as well for the variety. And I loved learning so much about the folklore of apples here!
My husband is a huge apple pie fan, so I know there are a couple of those in my future! One of my favourite apple recipes, is actually a pork and apple casserole- basically cooking pork, slice apples, and sliced onions in an apple juice based gravy. I also came across a pork and apple sausage recipe recently.
I have an applesauce muffin recipe that sounds a lot like the one you posted, that I got from my mother-in-law, so that’s going on my list too. I dip my muffins in the butter and cinnamon sugar and roll the whole things in it though- kind of like a doughnut! We actually have a local doughnut shop that makes apple crumb doughnuts, with an applesauce filling and a crumb topping! 😋
My personal apple favourite though, is the fresh “cider” they have here in Virginia. Unlike that from back home in the UK, it’s non-alcoholic and delicious. The alcoholic type is quite popular too, we have several local ciderworks that make all kinds of flavoured ciders. They’re really good in the Christmas punches too 😉
This comment is making me sooo hungry! I hadn't thought of savoury apple dishes, but that casserole sounds delicious. And as for apple crumb doughnuts... wow - I need one of those! And yes to cider too ☺️🍎
Adore this! We have an apple tree in our garden and I just love the magic around it! I remember doing the love spell as a child... thank you for reminding me, so nostalgic! I have such fond memories of riding my pony through the apple orchards as a child and picking apples and letting the horses do the same. Something about hearing the crunch of that first bite!
Love this piece and can’t wait to explore the recipes. I just love stewing apples with cinnamon and some spices and eating it just as it is!!!!
Apple crumble is by far my favourite dessert, I am very excited that the season is now upon us. They celebrated Apple Day in the village I lived in for a short time with my parents, it seems like such a lovely thing to honour. Thank you for the suggestions and ideas for marking apple season, I very much look forward to embracing them fully!
You had me at apple crumble Victoria! I think I’m going to make that this weekend. With custard of course! I have a n oracle card with abundance on it and she is holding a cut apple, so I’m taking thid as a sign of abundance as well. Thank you. 🙏💫
I made an apple pie following your last newsletter, just as the hot week began... Still polished it off, just with ice cream instead. Definitely the muffins next 😊
Ha, love this! I think I sent the last newsletter the day right before the heatwave started. Not the best timing. But apples and ice cream are the perfect solution 👍🏻🍎
We are having a bumper year of apples here in Central Oregon :) We have only one apple tree, and so far I've made 4 pies, 2 crisps, 1 cake, and apple sauce...and more than half the apples remain. Will be checking out these recipes and enjoying the mythology as I continue to bake this season!
Apple crumble is one of my favourites so this was a pleasure to read, I've bookmarked the Jamie Oliver recipe to give it a try! Lovely to learn about the rituals, there is something quite magical and almost romantic about apple picking 😌

ooh yum. Thank you!
My husband is an apple pie fan (he doesn't do crumble...), I did add in cinnamon this time, just for a change.
Cinnamon and apple = perfect combination 💫
I love this ❤️ some great recipes to try! I’m going to look and see if there is a pick your own orchard near me.
Thanks for the reminder about the star in an apple. I remember doing print making as a child with them - so fun.
Ooh printmaking. That’s a great idea! 🍎

I really love how Apple Day has become a thing. It’s an excellent excuse for a celebration in my book! ☺️🍎
Couldn't agree more!
Thank you for these especially muffins 😍.
Those are proving very popular! ☺️🍎

I think that is absolutely a sign - for double helpings of apple crumble! 😁

Thank you! And yes... that recipe 😍
Loved this! I am absolutely making the muffins.
Thank you! And I know... that muffin recipe is amazing! It was the crispy cinnamon sugar on top that got me... 😍
