One of my favorite February rituals is buying the seeds for my garden on February 2. That was my dad's birthday and loved nature, so it's my little way of remembering him. Buying vegetable and flower seeds always stirs up the very first feelings of spring for me.
I've been in deep hibernation all winter and it's been lovely - there have been weeks when I literally don't leave the house (thanks, grocery delivery). We've had over 200 inches of snow this year and my home is such a warm cozy nest that I've just been leaning into it. We are getting out for a full moon snowshoe later this month though.
That’s such a lovely ritual to remember your dad 🌱🩷 and also, that level of snowy hibernation sounds absolutely wonderful. Fully envious of a full moon snowshoe! Enjoy 🌝
Just stumbled across your Substack, happy to have found you. I am practicing embracing the seasons to keep me grounded. This month I am looking especially forward to seeing all the winterblooms emerging. I actually just visited a gorgeous public garden with all the plants you described. https://www.instagram.com/p/DFxkLF6INXV/
My Feb ritual involves my birthday. I have from Christmas to then to spend time thinking of the change that I want for the upcoming year. Not goals or resolutions but themes, or words. What I want to let go of and want I want to carry though.
We are about a month behind here in the north compared with the south in the UK so obviously nature isn't as advanced but this month is for looking for snowdrops in bloom, bluebells starting to push through in the woods and birdsong returning.
It akways amazes me how early spring comes to the UK. We will have to wait till May to see any new leaves here in northern Canada 🇨🇦 So, a good 3 month wait. At least seed buying keeps me forward thinking.
Hello to Canada from the UK! It’ll be a little while before we see any new growth here too, but it’s on the horizon. Seed buying is the best activity for a cold February day… keeps a glimmer of hope going 🌱
Oh, I needed the snow monkey video! Thank you!
