I love thinking about the moon's effect on the body...since our bodies are mostly water (we're basically oceans contained in skin), I can't help but wonder about our tides.
This was incredible, Vicky. Thank you so much for sharing! I stumbled into seasonal living through slow living, and am now finding myself entranced by lunar living. I guess it's all one and the same, at the end of the day. But I love learning about how to live based on the phases. Thank you so much for sharing.
Ah thank you, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! And yes I absolutely agree, it’s all one and the same. In fact I stumbled into slow living through seasonal living! But much the same principles apply 🌝💫
Perfect Vicky! I have worked with the phases of the moon for the last couple of years and have found it really helpful in planning my work. I follow Yasmin Boland and use her diary, which has great insights for each month.
I find the idea of living around the lunar cycle fascinating and intend to bring my life more in line with this. I’m currently reading Kirsty Gallagher’s Sacred Seasons which I love. Thank you for such an insightful read 😍
Absolutely love this. I'm trying to live more seasonally and be in touch with natural cycles, so really appreciate your suggestions for what to do at different phases of the moon. As you say, even just acknowledging a full or new moon is a start! Thank you
I'm so pleased you enjoyed it! And yes, just noticing the full moon each month is sometimes all we have time for, but it's still a lovely connection to make. The full moon over the past few days has been beautiful 🌝
Loved reading this Victoria, it is full of informative and accessible magic! I have taken great interest in the moon since I was young (my mum says that as a baby I used to act differently around a full moon!) and have intended to live by the lunar cycles for a few years (also tied in with seasonal/slow living and I think I first discovered it through my yoga practice). I find the ebb and flow of energy comforting and beneficial. More recently it has become about simply noticing where we are at, making new moon intentions when I can and I love exploring the folk name of each full moon; it is lovely to have this list of rituals to re-inspire (and that feel doable), thank you.
Ooh, informative and accessible magic! I love that! Thanks very much ☺️ And yes I totally agree with babies and children being hyper aware of the moon - when my son was really small he would NEVER sleep during a full moon. As a toddler he is definitely a bit more energetic around this time too! Perhaps there are also some people that are extra sensitive to it? I love all the folklore and stories around each of the moons too 💫 Adds a bit of magic doesn't it.
Yes to full moons and sleep/energy! I think there are people more sensitive than others and maybe it depends on where the moon is too...? My moon sign is in Taurus and I always feel more connected to those. And I suppose, like with anything, paying attention to something more closely allows you to feel more...
Popped in here from Notes and really enjoyed this post! The Moon has always been very important to me (I'm a Cancer) and my family. Agriculture and healing rituals of my ancestors are based heavily on the phases of the moon. My husband, son & I talk to, photograph, and paint the Moon...it's very much a part of us. I just wrote about my New Moon-intentions yesterday...As I move toward the Blue Moon I hope to limit screen-related distractions and return to Nature. Finding the balance is what I'm focused on -- writing and publishing while also stepping away frequently to seek solace in Nature. Make sense? ♡
A lovely read, thanks for sharing. I've been marking the new and full moons for over a year now and use them as a chance to reflect and release. Really interesting around more babies being born on a full moon, it makes sense with all the other changes that happen!
I love all things folklore, there is something so romantic about in and I feel very connected to our past and ancestors. I would love to read a monthly mini series about the moon:) 🌙
I love following the moon phases, I find it's a great way to break up tasks and projects in many areas. I especially like it for gardening so as not to feel quite so overwhelmed, with a seemingly endless to do list. Lovely post... 🌜💫
Ooh yes absolutely. Gardening by the moon phases is such a great topic too. I started looking into but got a bit overwhelmed! It’s on my list to find out more about though ☺️🌱 🌙
Lovely ideas of implementing moon cycle rituals. I’ve known the different moon cycles for a while and I’ve been working with them from time to time but haven’t yet established a routine. This inspired me to look into it more ✨
Anecdotally, more babies are supposed to be born on a Full Moon. I heard this fact so many times when I was pregnant! But to date there hasn't been a study that proves it...
That’s so interesting! Apparently there have been some studies but they have all shown no causal link. But talk to any midwife / mother and they will tell you differently so it’s all a bit weird...
Sorry to jump on this thread! Just wanted to say I think it is the same with dreams and the full moon. Apparently, all the studies show no link, but many people I know experience their most vivid dreams a few days before the full moon. It makes sense to me, if the moon can pull the oceans, then what chance does the water in our bodies have? Surely that has to have some impact?
I guess also you’d only be able to know by studying spontaneous labour as so many women get inductions etc these days also so it’s not a true indication of when labour would have started?
What a wonderful read. November is definitely a time to rest and prepare for the season ahead. But I’m so glad you mentioned all the things you can do to be in the moment.

Yes absolutely! The more you think about it the more logical it all seems 🌊 🌝

I love that! Yes, definitely very similar :)

Ooh that’s a good tip thank you, I’ll take a look 👀

I'm glad you enjoyed it, there's something very peaceful about following the lunar cycle 🌙
I agree, and very grounding too I think.
I am saving this beautiful piece to have it close. Thank you!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it 🌝

I'd love to read more! Thank you for this lovely overview. So glad I found you!
Ooh that’s great to hear, thanks so much! ☺️💫

Makes perfect sense and sounds wonderful! Thanks for your lovely message and I'm so glad this post made its way to you 💫

I am very intrigued!

Loved reading this! Yay! I wonder if babies a born more on the full moon or new moon...
Anecdotally, more babies are supposed to be born on a Full Moon. I heard this fact so many times when I was pregnant! But to date there hasn't been a study that proves it...
Both my midwives said this! I wonder why they wouldn’t study it? The data is already there?
That’s so interesting! Apparently there have been some studies but they have all shown no causal link. But talk to any midwife / mother and they will tell you differently so it’s all a bit weird...
My spidey sense is it’s part of the patriarchal construct to keep us away from magick! I’m very happy to say I bleed in cycle with the moon... 🌚
Now you mention it... most of the studies into it have been by men... 🤔
