Hello!
Put the kettle on and cut yourself a good-sized slice of cake; today I’m announcing a brand new free addition to my Substack publication: the Seasonal Living with Victoria Harrison subscriber chat.
This is a conversation space in the Substack app that I set up exclusively for my subscribers — kind of like a group chat or live hangout. I like to think of it as an online version of a super-cosy coffee shop where we can all hang out. I’ll post short seasonal prompts, thoughts, and updates that come my way, and you can jump into the discussion. I’d like it to be a space for friendships, chat and support. Say hello, share your work and meet like-minded souls.
I set this up because of the amazing response to a note I posted a couple of weeks ago where I was looking for other nature-loving substack writers out there (I’ll link the note at the end of this post). If I’m honest, I hoped to get one or two replies at most, as I hadn’t had much feedback on notes previously. But I was overwhelmed by the response. Turns out there are so many of us out there looking for our tribe!
I absolutely loved hearing from everyone and it’s clear that right now, without a nature category on Substack, there isn’t an easy way for us all to find each other. So I’m hoping this chat space might be a place we can all share our writing, find others to connect with and just enjoy some of the lovely happy vibes that exist within this nature-loving, slow living, season-appreciating group of people.
I’ll start a new chat once a month, and I’ll leave it unlocked and open to everyone so you can dip into it as and when you have a moment. The aim is for it to be fun and easy to scroll through, allowing you to pick out a few new nature reads to enjoy with a cup of tea and the aforementioned cake.
Then we can all connect, read, comment and share and build our own wonderful Seasonal Living community 🌿💫
In today’s chat I’m starting with an ice breaker and asking, What’s your favourite season? I think we all know mine by now… it starts with A and ends in ‘utumn’. So now it’s over to you - come and say hello, share a link to your own Substack if you have one, and maybe make a new friend or two.
What do you think?
Vicky xx
The note that started all this!
The technical bit
To join our chat, you’ll need to download the Substack app, now available for both iOS and Android. Chats are sent via the app, not email, so turn on push notifications so you don’t miss conversation as it happens.
How to get started
Download the app by clicking this link or the button below. Substack Chat is now available on both iOS and Android.
Open the app and tap the Chat icon. It looks like two bubbles in the bottom bar, and you’ll see a row for my chat inside.
That’s it! Jump into my thread to say hi, and if you have any issues, check out Substack’s FAQ.
I love all the seasons for all the different reasons... Winter, warm inside gloomy inside with hope and expectation around the corner. Sprung.. a welcome change in all aspects.. the journey to summer getting closer daily, summer- a feeling if not reality of frivolity, a time to make the most of ‘life’... Autumn to settle and regenerate, a sense of introspection and intimacy as normal... I’d find it hard to choose one x
I always find this question so hard to answer as every season has its own unique spin.
Summer: loving the longer days, lighter evenings, feeling the sun on my face, spending as many hours outdoors as possible, alfresco dining, siping a chilled glass of wine.
Autumn: the chill in the air, odd misty morning, nature preparing itself to shut down for winter, the wonderful autumnal colours, sitting round the fire-pit wrapped in a blanket with a hot toddy.
Winter: the cozy feeling of hunkering down in front a roaring log fire, slower, easier days, snuggling on the sofa with a blanket and a good book (maybe a glass of red wine) traditional home cooked food.
Spring: the return of everything coming back to life, blossom on the tress, wildlife resurfacing, the lighter evenings.
Too many variations to each season to have just the one favourite.
